LinkedIn Finally Launches Company Follow Button

Today, February 27, 2012, LinkedIn announced on their blog that they have finally launched a “Follow Company” button.  Companies can now add the button to their websites, making it easy for users to follow a company profile straight from the company’s webpage.

With over 2 million companies in the LinkedIn network, LinkedIn expects major brands like American Express, AT&T, Starbucks, Sony, Rypple, DonorsChoose, Kiva to add the buttons to their website shortly.  Rumor has it that this new button marks the first phase of a new LinkedIn follower strategy that will unveil soon.  Hopefully we will not have to wait long for the new changes as long as companies have been waiting for a follow button.

  • When your website visitors click the LinkedIn follow button on your website, they’ll automatically follow your company if they’re already logged in to LinkedIn (or they’ll get prompted to log in first if they’re not). As a result, these visitors will start receiving the status updates you publish to your LinkedIn Company Page in their LinkedIn homepage’s updates feed.

  • Social media is one of today’s top buzzwords – especially in the world of the Web. Consequently, the savvy business owner will use the assorted social media sites – Facebook, Twitter, Meetup, Google Plus and others to keep their name in forefront for consumers. Now, one of the most recognized, LinkedIn, has introduced a feature that makes it even easier for any consumer on the Web to keep up with companies of interest—the LinkedIn Follow button.

  • When a user clicks on the Follow Company button, they will automatically begin following your Company Page. Status updates you post from your Company Page will now show up on each follower’s homepage. Encourage followers to like, share, and comment on your posts- this helps spread the word to your followers’ entire network.

  • Today, I’m reminding everyone to use the new(ish) LinkedIn Follow Company button on their website. This update actually rolled out on February 27, 2012, but an email about the button was also sent out around March 7, 2012. If you haven’t started using the Follow Company button, you may be missing out on opportunities to connect with others. Not to mention, everybody else is doing it (note: this is not peer pressure, it’s peer push-in-the-right-direction).
